Can I be successful in life?

The last few weeks I keep on returning to John 15.  It’s a rich chapter full of great truths.  I keep reading it over and over…with a specific thought in mind, “God, how can I be successful in life?”  I don’t know about you, but I want to bear good and lasting fruit.  In this blog I want to show you that God has a desire for you to be successful and that you can be successful in life! Bearing fruit One of the themes of John 15 is the concept of......

How to teach children to make God their refuge?

Children are not immune to the trauma of life.  They experience divorce, death, bullying, lack of friends, achieving low grades at school, not making the first rugby team or many other things like that.  During such times they need a place to hide and to heal. If you have a nurturing home, it is really great since you can provide a safe place where you child can process their thinking.  Even this, though, is not sufficient for what your child need in times like that.  Your child need God and they need......

Find a safe place in God

I am not the kind of person that easily builds up offense against people.  In fact, I thought I was offense-free.  That was (ha ha) until, quite recently, when God highlighted Psalm 33:8 to me and asked me this question:  ‘Esmé, do you truly trust me?  My first response was ‘yes of course’, as is always the response when God asks a silly question like that!  “Of course I trust you God!  I find a safe place in God…always”  But then I paused for a while to think…experience has told me that......

Afraid to hear what God wants to say?

Have you ever ignored God for a while, simply because you are afraid to hear what God wants to say?  Have you ever  ignore God’s voice, simply because you assume that He does not want to give you that one thing you desire? In this blog I will discuss three reasons why we sometimes tune out God’s voice and what you can do to boldly open your ears to hear Him yet again. Why are we afraid to hear what God wants to say? Forgetting God’s nature In the previous blog I......

Hiding from hearing God's voice?

I never knew this…but it seems I am an expert at hiding from ‘hearing God’s voice’.  During the month of December I experienced a mini burn-out and took a few weeks to recover.  It was an excellent opportunity to recover, get refreshed and find my breath again.  But what did I end up doing in that time?  I watched a lot (and I mean A LOT) of series on tv!  To be honest, I did not spend much time with God. After doing this for some time, I started to think about......

Can children encounter God?

God loves children. When Jesus was on earth He rebuked adults who prevented children from being with Him. He even said that the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! God wants children to be with Him, know Him and experience His Love. God does not wait for children to come after Him – no, He pursues them! His pursuit is so real that He also gives them the fulness of His Presence. It’s God’s desire that children encounter Him with all their being. He truly loves them with an everlasting love. Can......

Putting back the joy in children's church

Many years ago I remember walking into a children’ church and thinking, “It’s so depressing here.”  I did not base this conclusion on what people said or even the children’s church programme of the day. It was just simply a depressing place to be in. This really distressed me and I decided to find out where this feeling came from.  I started to talk to the children’s ministry team members about why they are serving in children’s church and soon found out…most of the teachers actually wanted to be in adult church. They felt trapped in children’s church......
