We are currently experiencing a great outpouring of God’s Spirit over children in South Africa. There is a fresh and new hunger to know God. God is truly doing something new in our midst! It is our greatest dream and desire to see our children’s hearts ignited for God and to raise them to carry His Presence.
Why are we bringing Heather to Cape Town for the Ignite! Conference?
Journey of Grace and The Father’s House in Cape Town are excited to announce that Heather Thompson from Powerpack Ministries in the UK will be coming to South Africa! She will be the main speaker at our Ignite Children’s Ministry Conference. This year the theme of the conference will be: Ignite children’s hearts for God. We believe that God has called Heather to South Africa to ignite the hearts and minds of parents and those that work with children, to understand what He is doing in our children’s lives at this time.
What will the Ignite! Conference be about?
The Ignite Children’s Ministry Conference will be on the 19th and 20th of July in Cape Town. The aim of this conference is to equip, train and release children’s ministries, parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone else working with children, to ignite children’s hearts for God. Topics or questions that we will explore during those two days, are:
- How to raise up children to be God-Chasers & Nation Shakers
- How to release children to be packed with the fullness of God’s power and to equip them to cope with the difficulties of normal life.
- How to equip children to carry & release God’s love, hope and goodness in their communities and in our nation.
- How the church and schools can connect to assist children to make sense of who they are and how they connect with the world around them.
During this conference there will be plenary sessions by Heather Thompson, Esme Schmitt and Lynette Snyman. There will also be several “how to” workshops that will be presented by children’s pastors, teachers and parents. The aim of these workshops is to provide practical ideas that can be implemented immediately at home, in church or the classroom. The topics of these workshops will soon be available. Lastly, all conference attendees will have the opportunity to experience Encounter stations (a tool used in children’s ministry to connect children to God’s love, peace and joy) where they will receive personal ministry.
This conference, though, is not just about being equipped and trained. It is also designed to draw you closer to God, to be immersed in His Presence, to get refreshed, hear His Voice about what He is about to do in your life and to connect with other like minded people!

Who is Heather Thompson?
Heather Thompson has been involved in children’s ministry since she was too old to be a child in the Sunday school! Leading children’s groups early in her teenage years, God called her to full time children’s work when she was 15 years old. After teaching for 5 years in both Primary and Secondary schools, she left that job to fulfill her calling. Heather, as well as other members of the Powerpack Ministry team, have ministered extensively throughout the UK and internationally in countries such as: Argentina, Armenia, Uganda, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Spain, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Romania, Thailand, Burma and the USA.
Heather Thompson founded Powerpack Ministries in 1986 and she is still the director of this ministry. This ministry originated from the concept that children can be little ‘powerpacks’ for God. Heather believes that the word ‘Powerpack’ is all about seeing children raised up as ‘God chasers and nation shakers’. Powerpack Ministries is interdenominational and charismatic in character. They are team based, which implies that they draw volunteers from various churches throughout the UK and overseas.

Lynette Snyman has been a children’s pastor for over 20 years. She has a passion to see children understand and walk in the love of God and who God has called them to be. She also has a passion to see children encounter God’s presence and understand that He is real and with them. She believes that children do not have to wait until they are older to be used by God, but that God can and does use children to advance His Kingdom.
Lynette really enjoys mentoring and training people working in children’s ministry so that together we can bring God’s love to all children. She facilitates a network of children’s pastors who meet once a month to encourage and equip one another. She is currently writing a children’s church syllabus from pre-school to grade 7 that allows children to engage with God, as well as teaching children about God. Lynette is also part of a ministry called I am Special, that works in disadvantaged schools, teaching children about who they are and who God is.
